The National Council of Women’s Societies (NCWS) has called on the Federal Government and the University Academic Staff Union (ASSU) to reopen universities so that children can return to school and fully engage, denouncing the continuing crises in educational institutions. as a major threat to national security.

The Council’s National Chairperson, Hajiya Lami Adama Lau, made the call Thursday in Abuja, during a press conference to officially inaugurate events marking the International Day of the African Child and the First Women in National Service (WINSERVE 2022).

Lau, who is also chairman and chairman of the Special Events Planning Committee (SEPCOM), described the current education system as “worrying and unacceptable”, stressing that it is high time for governments and non-governmental institutions to be aware of their responsibilities.

According to her, the continued stay of children at home worries them as mothers, noting that it makes them idle, redundant and therefore vulnerable to all forms of violence and negative tendencies.

She also expressed concern about rising insecurity while calling on politicians

show more commitment to countering the threat by giving it more attention, just as they do for party delegates.
