Jamia Millia Islamia MSc Student Receives Scholarships From 6 US Universities

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) alumnus Uzma Khan, who completed her masters course in electronics from the Department of Applied Science, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia in 2021, has received offers to do a full Ph.D. funded by six prestigious American universities. She applied for a 100% scholarship to nine US universities and received offers from six, the university said. His area of ​​research will be “underwater wireless communication and signal processing”.

Uzma has been offered a 100% tuition waiver as well as a monthly stipend for on-campus work as a research and teaching assistant at six US universities – Lehigh University, University of Cincinnati, University of Maryland at Baltimore County, SUNY (State University of New York) Buffalo, SUNY Albany and University of New Hampshire.

Uzma chose Lehigh University and will join in August 2022. She also received a one-time relocation allowance from the university. “I’m joining Lehigh University because my degrees and research interests are a perfect fit with my potential supervisor there,” she said.

The wireless and signal processing lab she will be joining conducts cutting-edge research on current and future technologies and will be best suited to her research area which is underwater wireless communication and signal processing, she explained.

After getting good scores in IELTS and GRE, she became eligible to apply to American universities. After sending e-mails to professors with whom her research interests coincide, she then had technical interviews with a committee composed of members of the laboratory/department in which she wished to be admitted.

Uzma also achieved first place in her class during her master’s studies in Jamia and for this she will receive a gold medal in the next convocation. She also received a provisional offer of an INSPIRE scholarship from the DST, Ministry of Science and Technology. Previously, she was placed as a system engineer at TCS and Infosys, but she chose not to join as her interest lies in research.
