Private universities approved as eminence institutes 3 years ago have yet to submit readiness report: Ministry of Education


The Union Ministry of Education has informed that private educational institutions, which would have been approved as Institutes of Eminence (IoE) three years ago, have yet to submit their reports of preparation. Earlier, in 2017, the central government announced the curriculum of the world-class educational institution. Under this program, 10 public higher education institutions and 10 private higher education institutions will receive IoE status.

According to the Institutions of Eminence Deemed to be Universities (UGC) Regulations 2017, proposed recognized institutions must submit their preparation report to the Union Ministry of Education after three years. The report will be reviewed by the expert committee and recommended to the Ministry of Education based on which they will be declared as reputable institutes.

Responding to a public question, the ministry said private educational institutions that received the proposed approval did not submit their report.

No less than eight governmental institutions and three private institutions have been granted the special status of reputable institutions. The aim of the program is to internationalize Indian education and provide teaching and research facilities in India on par with the top 100 universities in the world.

In addition to the above private institutes, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore, Amrita Viswa Vidyapeedam, Coimbatore, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, Kalinga Technical Education, Bhubaneswar and Bharti Institute, Mohali has given approval to reputed institutes ( Letter of Intent) by the Ministry of Education.
